Mountain View School District to Offer Cyber Services Program

Mountain View School District has entered into an agreement to provide a cyber services program effective for the 2008-2009 school year. Dr. Andrew Chichura, Superintendent announced that a meeting will be held on Wednesday, July 9, 2008, at 7:00 P.M. in the high school auditorium to explain the program to interested students and their parents/guardians.

This cyber services program, Virtually Linking Instruction and Curriculum (VLINC), offers a menu of options from a variety of sources to meet the individual needs of Mountain View School District resident students. The comprehensive program is designed to provide credit recovery, advanced placement, and expand the curriculum currently offered at the Mountain View School District. The curriculum may be delivered either online or through a blending of online and traditional on-site coursework.

Participation may be particularly advantageous to current resident students not enrolled in the tradition program offered at the main school district campus. An opportunity for participation in the school district's extra-curricular and curricular programs becomes available for students choosing to enroll. In addition, students may be eligible to graduate from the Mountain View School District and receive a school district diploma.

Consideration of the VLINC program may be a desirable alternative to a current cyber services program. It also provides an opportunity for students needing credit recovery, advanced placement, and to expand the curriculum currently offered at the Mountain View School District. Superintendent Chichura stated that he looks forward to meeting with the students and their parents/guardians on July 9th.

The Mountain View School District is strategically located in Susquehanna County, midway between the urban centers of the greater Scranton, Pennsylvania and Binghamton, New York. Susquehanna County presents itself as an ecologically sound and environmentally friendly county. Many of our residents commute from the scenic countryside to work in nearby Scranton, Binghamton and Tunkhannock. Main sources of income are dairy farming, bluestone quarries, lumbering, berry farms, concrete sales, Christmas tree farms and numerous other small businesses. We have many lakes and streams, as well as numerous varieties of wildlife, which makes our area well known for its good hunting, fishing, hiking and other recreational activities. The area's largest ski resort is located near the school district. Mountain View School District covers an area of approximately 195 square miles. The Campus is located on the top of a mountain with a spectacular view of many other hills and mountains, thus capturing the spirit of our name. The Campus has a K-6 elementary center with about 700 students and a 7-12 secondary level center with about 750 students. Both buildings are modern and well maintained on scenic grounds. Mountain View Elementary School opened in 1991, combining the rich heritage of Harford, Brooklyn and Clifford elementary schools. Mountain View Junior-Senior High School graduated its first class in 1960. The building was completely renovated, with state of the art science and music wings added in 2002. The entire campus is wired for the 21st century, with leading edge technology available to students and staff. Mountain View seeks to continue to be an educational center where education is a lifelong process, where care is expressed in every action, every day in every life.
